Defense: 
When: the ball is in opponent's court and they are running their offense
What: Prevent a live ball to hit the ground
How: Block, dig, tip coverage, pass
Positions: When setter is in: 

  • Position #1: Setter stays at 1 and plays defense
  • Position #6. Setter moves to 1 and plays defense, 1 covers back line, 5 covers sharp angle hits/tips
  • Position #5. Setter moves to 1 and plays defense, 6 covers sharp angle hits, 1 covers back line
  • Position #4. Supports middle for right side hits
  • Position #3. Middle block (opp 2-3-4)
  • Position #2. Supports middle for left side hits
